Undergraduate Certificate
The certificate serves both educational and vocational purposes through an advancement of an understanding of global affairs and other cultures and preparation for a growing number of international careers in government, business, and non-governmental organizations.

In order to provide students with diverse opportunities for studying global issues, Global Studies courses will be also be offered in the Verona Study Abroad Program and the Kyoto Study Abroad Program, thus giving UGA students the opportunity to work towards a Global Studies Certificate in an appropriately realistic European or Asian setting relevant to such studies. In addition, international students residing in Europe or Asia will be able to earn a certificate by studying at our offices in Italy or Japan, taking courses that are part of the UGA study abroad programs offered there. By adding this opportunity for international students, we will achieve the objective of integrating the student body by including local international students as well as UGA students in our study abroad programs.

Altogether, 30 semester hours or the equivalent is required for the certificate, with an overall GPA of 3.0. Courses taken in conjunction with other academic programs such as majors or minors can be used for the Certificate. The program encompasses four areas:
1. Global Core (e.g., theories and methods in global studies)
2. Foreign Language
3. Area/Cultural Studies (e.g., cultures and foreign areas)
4. Global Issues (e.g., ecology, peace, development, and demography)
A wide spectrum of courses is available from diverse disciplines for each area [see available courses]. At least half the required credit hours must be generated from courses offered by The University of Georgia. Students are expected to identify one or more career goals that will serve as focus for developing an individualized curriculum that meets the requirements.
